Rabbi Shmuel Jablon is the Head of Lower School at Fuchs Mizrachi School in Cleveland, Ohio. The FMS Lower School was selected as a No Child Left Behind-Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 2003. The 5768/2007-8 school year will be his 8th in that position. Prior to that, he was the Associate Headmaster at South Peninsula Hebrew Day School in Sunnyvale, California.
As Head of Lower School, he oversees the entire Judaic and General Studies program, as well as working with the overall administrative team of the school. He has been part of unprecedented growth in the school's enrollment. He has also pioneered numerous educational initiatives. For example, he has published a full curriculum for the school that has become a model for schools throughout North America. He has published web-books on Mishna Brachot and the State of Israel that are used nationally. His school was one of the first to use Rabbi Dr. Pinchas Hayman's Bonayich-Veshinantam Mishna program, as well as the Taryag Legacy Foundation's Aseret haDibrot program. Rabbi Jablon also started the school's popular Mishna Clubs program where both boys and girls voluntarily complete many Messechtot of "extra" Mishnayot during their Lower School years.
Many of his education programs are available through his school's web site One senior educator told him, "The word is out that if Rabbi Jablon does a program, it must be good." This ability to have not only a dramatic impact on his own school, but to influence the curricula of similar schools in North America, is something that brings him tremendous pride as a Rabbi and educator.
Rabbi Jablon hosts his own web site and has authored numerous articles and the books Jewish Answers and Summer (Torah) Reading. He was a contributing author to What's Jewish About America's Favorite Past Time, including an article about his use of baseball in teaching Mesorah, published by the College of William and Mary. He serves as a board member of the Cleveland Jewish News and as the Co-Chair of the Religious and Academic Division of the Jewish Federation of Cleveland annual campaign. He is also a member of the Chicago Rabbinic Council and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.
He explains that he entered the rabbinate in order "to use all of my abilities and energy to serve Hashem and His people, and the opportunity to help develop a new generation of committed, educated and observant Jews is what attracted me to serve in Chinuch."
Rabbi Jablon received smicha from the Hebrew Theological College (Skokie Yeshiva) in 5757/1997 and holds a Masters in Education from the University of Judaism. He also has certification in gifted education from the University of North Texas.
He is married to Rebecca. They are blessed with four children. An ardent Religious Zionist, Rabbi Jablon speaks to his children almost exclusively in Ivrit. "My goal for my children is the same as the goal for my students," he said. "I pray that they should grow up to be Torah scholars filled with love of Hashem and the entire Jewish People, and to merit to make aliya and do this in Israel!"
